The Savant Clan

The Savant (Sardesai-Warkar) royal family of Konkan were from Rajasthan , they were the descendants of the Shilahara dynasty and their Royal Knights,generals,vassals and samants(feudal kings) , who ruled the whole of Konkan region of Maharashtra. Shilahara royal dynasty were the vassals of the Rashtrakuta royal dynasty.

The Shilahara's were descendants from King Jimutaketu ,he was the King of Vidhyadharas and Gandharvas.

The Savant( Sardesai Warkar) family are Yaduvansh rajputs.And not part of the 96 Maratha kuli.They were added quite recently.The Devak of this clan is a Lotus flower.The coat of arms of this clan is a Yellow horse and a canopy.The Nishan and Heraldic of this clan is Hanuman on the flagpole.( According to some sources)

VIDYADHARA

Vidyadhara(s) (Sanskrit Vidyādhara, literally "wisdom-holders") are a group of supernatural beings in Indian religions who possess magical powers. In Hinduism, they also attend Shiva, who lives in the Himalayas. They are considered as Upadevas, semi-gods or Demi.-gods )In Other Sources -- Vidyādhara (Pāli, vijjādhara; possessor of magical power) is a master of esoteric knowledge, a magician or sorcerer. The Vidyadharis were known as Apsaras with supernatural powers 

 In Indian Buddhist and Hindu sources the vidyādhara is depicted as a human or supernatural being who, by means of various occult sciences, develops the ability to perform marvelous feats like flying through the air, transmuting base metals into gold, becoming impervious to weapons, and so on.

In the MahĀyĀna tantric tradition of Bengal, the term vidyādharabecame a synonym for the mahĀsiddha or "great accomplished one," a tantric master who attains liberation as an immortal wonder worker. Classically eighty-four in number, mahāsiddhaseither ascend alive to the paradise of the ḌĀkinĪs or remain among humans until the advent of the Future Buddha Maitreya (Pāli, Metteyya)

Savant royal clan

The Raje Savant (Sardesai Warkar)  family by the time of Maratha invasion , the house of Savant-Warkar were reduced to be Sardesai of Wari and the Khots ( ruler) of Ori.Hence they were begining to known as Savant-Sardesai Warkars as they were the Sardesai of Wari.The gotra is of this clan is Kashyapa or Atri . Savants came from the Yadava royal dynasty.

Over the years , the dynasty's royal family name became as a title for 'ruler', a license to rule the konkan.the "Savant family name was given as a title for "Raja or a noble Raja , it was a license to rule a part of erstwhile Savant famiky kingdom.

At the rule of the Desai  Sarasvat brahmin of .The defeated Savant- Sardesai Warkar  family became the 'erstwhile' royal family of Konkan and became one of the vassals of the Bijapur sultanate under the Sarasvat Desai Brahmin tributary.

The Savant royal clan were known as Khots ( a lingo in konkan for 'ruler') , they also had other honorific titles like - Raje , Sardesai , Sarpatil , Sardar, Desai , Naik, Sarnaik , Sarkar , Deshmukh, Patil and etc.

There are legends which suggest that the Savant royal clan even had a war with Shivaji Maharaje and were against his beliefs.

Royal Kinship

This dynasty has close blood relations (Collateral family lines) with the royal family of Jaisalmer ( Bhati clan) ,the royal family of Sirmur, The Jadeja dynasty and it's branches  , The royal founding family of Kapurthala and the Phulkian dynasty - the Phulkian sardar Sidhu-Brar royal family of Patiala,Jind and Nabha, the Phulkian of Faridkot and other Phulkian dynasty members. Even the Bharatpur Sinsinwar royal family, Bhojas of Goa ,Wodeyar dynasty as all these clans claim descent from the Yadavas of Dwarka, 

Savant clan has a collateral branch, the Shelar clan (descendants of Ratta dynasty who is one of the branches of Rashtrakuta dynasty , they ruled Belgaum and the Shelar branch descents from the Shilhara dynasty branch which ruled Kolhapur )



The Savant-Sardesai Warkar family , also had good and close relations with the royal family of Burna.As they supported them, the Thibaw king was exiled in Ratnagiri.This was at the time of British rule in india
