The Bhogle clan's antecendants migrated to the Deccan from Udaipur, Rajasthan , By the time, Shivaji maharaje had established his empire,he had connection with his brother ( Collateral)  family to the Deccan to help him expand his empire. Those members in Udaipur were the ancestors of Bhogle clan.

On the way to Deccan from Rajasthan , The Bhogle ( Mewar/Sisodia) clan were being followed by the Mughals, They fought relentlessly and bravely and defeated the Mughals.
For this Shivaji Maharaje bestowed upon them the title 'Bhogle' which means brave or noble.
He also bestowed upon them a gift, which was a gold vessel which had 12 leafs on which the twelve jyotirlingas were inscrpited , the vessel was filled with gold coins and jewels,as a gesture of gratitude and respect

Bagalkote to Bhoglewadi

In the time of Mughal Invasion in Bagalkot. The Bhogle royal family and their people of the Bagalkot  kingdom, fought bravely but unfortunately were at the face of defeat.

Their Rajput familial  tradition of Jauhar/ Jowhar wasn't comitted .[ By the time , Bhogles who had become a part of the royal Maratha kulis , had adopted the practice of Sati which also wasn't comitted in the time of Mughal invasion in Bagalkot , Sati is a practice of self immolation done by warrior aristocrat ladies ] .The king and his family took the remaining people of the kingdom, escape to safety. The Bhogles  preferred to sacrifice their kingdom and royal lifestyle for their subjects  of Bagalkot.

After a lot of fighting and not settling down in a place .The Bhogles , along with their surviving soliders and people reached a coastal land known as 'Malvan' , in Konkan region. As they all were wounded , they settled in a small and hidden land known as ' Bhoglewadi' and Shrimant Babaji raje Bhogle of Bagalkot , the 'Mulpurush' and the last king of Bagalkot , established the small kingdom of Bhoglewadi. The Bhogle royals had many enemies, so they gave their family name to the remaining people , who had survived the journey of  'Bagalkot to Bhoglewadi' , To maintain secrecy of the existence of the surviving royals and the survivors of their kingdom.

In Bhoglewadi , each and every citizen of Bhoglewadi  have the surname 'Bhogle' and only 'Bhogle' surname named people are allowed to enter and stay in Bhoglewadi, Konkan.

The Bhogle royal family are known as Bhogle Sarnaik.

Descendants of Shrimant Babaji RajeBhogle of Bagalkot ,the last Raja of Bagalkote, the Moolpurush and  the first king and founder of Bhoglewadi , his descendants became the Subehdars of Malvan for the Nizam and were from the prominent line of Bhoglewadi rulers  and from the eldest branch of the erstwhile Bhogle royal family of Bagalkote .

In the time of British Raj . The Bhogle royal family were considered Honorary Justice by the British.
